Bushfire update #2 – a drive in (videos)

6 Dec 2019

Due to wind shifts the fire came back again on Thursday 5 December and there was more drama – again north-west of our park and this time also north of our neighbours “Durras Beach North Holiday Park” formerly known as “Bundilla”. They have survived, as have the electricity poles coming from South Durras, so maybe we will get some power, real soon now.

Thanks to the usual suspects: NPWS Rangers, RFS and NSW Forestry PLUS the locals that stayed behind to patrol the village and put out spot fires. THANK YOU!

Below are some photos and videos on the road in from the highway (Mt Agony Road) and of the village of Durras North.

BUT FIRST, what it used to look like.

AND NOW, what it looks like today.

For those more artistic readers do a little shopping at Josh’s shop, part-time firefighter and full-time photographer (sort of) Point Upright on fire. And Josh, can you finish taking the photos of the cabins now that you have saved them? All I have heard for the past week are excuses about the light not being right!

So now let’s go for a drive in from the highway and survey the damage – the beautiful spotted gums, blackbutts and ironbark trees are a little burnt, but have survived.

Oh, and I almost forgot to mention we found the laughing gnome being assisted by a neighbour. He was hiding in hospital – alive but burnt. The things some workers will do to get out the hard yakka of getting ready for the Xmas rush. And requesting time off to go to Sydney for skin grafts is just pushing it too much.

AND FINALLY – just remember we are on the Road to Recovery!!
