After just 3 months, Durras Lake is open again to the ocean. Heavy rain and with a little help from an excavator, the lake was manually opened around 1.30pm on the 26th August, 2014.
The graphic below shows the actual water level heights courtesy of the Manly Hydraulics Laboratory. The reason the Lake was opened manually is that one of the triggers set by Eurobodalla Council is reaching a lake height of 1.8 metres.
Below is a list of the opening and closing dates of Durras Lake since 2001. We’ve been fortunate enough to witness each opening since taking over Durras Lake North Holiday Park in 2001. Actually the first time we drove to Durras North, the second concrete bridge in from the highway was completely covered by flowing water and without a 4WD we would not have tried to cross over. Once at the village, there was great excitement with the locals rushing down to watch the opening.
